On March 14, 2025, the National Museum of Carthage hosts an inaugural gala for its "Punic Treasures" exhibition. The star piece: Tanit's Eye, a solid gold brooch inlaid with lapis lazuli and electrum dating from the 3rd century BC, valued at 12 million dinars. At five minutes past midnight, Ibrahim Chahed, a caterer's waiter, finds Dr. Fares Mansour, the chief curator, lying unconscious before the shattered display case in the Punic Treasures Room. Tanit's Eye has disappeared. The building is immediately sealed. None of the eight guests in the east wing has been able to leave. Inspector Khedher has only hours before the press seizes the scandal — and before the thief finds a way out.
